Neighbors gathered in the Pocket Park on August 2nd to release the first Monarch Butterfly raised by the Monarch Project volunteers. The female butterfly, fostered by Sharon, flew out of her mesh enclosure and up into a Redbud tree over our heads. She then pumped her wings for a little while before flying off.
This Monarch will eventually lay her own eggs, as part of the important 4th Generation in the Monarch Migration. That generation will fly all the way to Mexico to overwinter before beginning making the first leg of the journey back here next year. It’s a wild migration!
