Delaware's loveliest neighborhood

Neighbor focus: Wilmington Hospital

by | Feb 16, 2023 | Public Relations Committee

For over a century, Wilmington Hospital has been an essential part of the Midtown Brandywine community. As residents of this historic neighborhood, we take pride in the hospital’s long-standing commitment to providing quality healthcare services to the people of Wilmington and the surrounding areas.

Over the years, Wilmington Hospital has become a world-class facility that offers advanced medical treatments and cutting-edge technologies. As a result, the hospital is a hub of activity, and we sometimes hear the sound of helicopter ambulances overhead as they bring patients to the hospital. However, we don’t mind the occasional over-flight because we know that the patient is about to receive the best care that Delaware has to offer.

Wilmington Hospital has a long and storied history that dates back over a century. Originally founded in 1890 by the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, the hospital began as a small facility with only 25 beds. However, it quickly grew in size and reputation, and by the early 1900s, Wilmington Hospital was already recognized as a leading healthcare provider in the region.

Over the years, Wilmington Hospital underwent many expansions and renovations to keep up with the changing needs of the community it served. Today, the hospital is a world-class facility that offers advanced medical treatments and cutting-edge technologies, while still remaining a vital part of the community it serves.

Despite the hospital’s growth and expansion, Wilmington Hospital has remained a good neighbor to the Midtown Brandywine community. The hospital and our neighborhood have a respectful and friendly relationship, which is evidenced by the fact that one of the hospital’s most valued team members, Bobby Ries, serves on the Midtown Brandywine Neighbors’ Association executive committee. Bobby is the vice-chairman of the Neighbors’ Association’s Public Safety and Parking Committee and is an essential liaison between the hospital and our community.

Wilmington Hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services has always been rooted in the community it serves. As Midtown Brandywine residents, we are proud to have this world-class institution in our neighborhood, and we value our relationship with the hospital and its dedicated staff. We look forward to many more years of shared history and continued collaboration between Wilmington Hospital and the Midtown Brandywine community.
